During the last two weeks of March, 1917, the 13th London battalion of 168 Brigade, 56th Division were at Ivergny and Gouy-en-Artois, training for their role in the forthcoming Battle of Arras.  On 1st April, 168 Brigade took over a section of the front line in front of Beaurains and 13th London moved into support positions near Achicourt where they stayed until relieved on 3rd April. The battalion diary recorded little about their stay here other to say that it was very cold and that the enemy was generally quiet except for some shelling of Beaurains. It was likely to have been this shelling that resulted in the death of Clement Cornborough who died from wounds on 3rd April.
